But that is not the only time that you might hear a honk out in your driveway. Here in Zancudo we also enjoy a number of other local folks that come by from time to time with fresh goodies. It could be anything from fresh jumbo shrimp caught that day in the Golfo Dulce to fresh baked donuts with jam inside from a local church fundraiser. Fresh eggs, home made cheese, the list goes on and on.
For me ... I keep a look out for the Tamale girl !! For those of you who don't know, Tamales are an Ancient Mesoamerican dish that has been traced back to the Aztec and Maya civilizations. A starchy corn based dough is made and then stuffed with a combination of cooked meats, vegetables, rice, peppers, onions, potatoes and seasoning. Then you take the Tamale and roll it up in banana leaves and tie them closed with some string. Some people boil them and some people steam them but in the end it's like a little Christmas package full of goodness !!! ... ps. You don't eat the banana leaves Gringo !!! ;)
