The country of Costa Rica is a wonderful place to visit and vacation. Safe, friendly, beautiful and diverse. There is so much to see and enjoy in this little jewel that it could take years and years of travel to truly see it all. There is however one place that I believe will put that sparkle and excitement in your eyes the very first time you experience it !
On the Pacific coast, at the "end of the road", on the southern tip of the Southern Zone of Costa Rica you will find the small fishing village of Playa Zancudo. Many of us here call it "The Real Costa Rica" because it is remote and largely undeveloped. It's a five mile long sand peninsula that jets out into the Golfo Dulce to separate a huge mangrove estuary from the blue green waters of the Pacific Ocean.
The black sand beach here is lined with coconut palms and almond trees as far as the eye can see. Nothing in the village is taller than two stories and from the beach you wouldn't even know there was a little town here at all !! With only enough room for one beach front house or a small Restaurant, a single dirt road runs down the center of the peninsula. On the other side of this road is just enough room for a house or small business before you find yourself at the waters edge of the Coto River that forms a huge and amazing Mangrove Estuary.
The population of Playa Zancudo is around five hundred people, made up of a mix of local 'Ticos' and 'ex-pats' from the US, Canada and Europe. Friendly and outgoing they have found a wonderful slice of paradise in a part of Costa Rica that very few of the many tourist that visit this country every year have a chance to experience.
If getting away from it all is what you are all about, take a little time and look thru our web site - www.visitzancudo.com - or join us on Facebook at "Visit Zancudo" to see and hear all there is to enjoy in this one of a kind place.
As we say here in Costa Rica,
PURA VIDA !!
